Oh, Obama, once again pursuing America’s policy of policing the entire world. Since the invasion of Iraq the US has enjoyed ‘military success’, if you count hundreds of thousands of deaths as successful and now Obama has decided he wants to build on that success.
Syria has been embroiled in a major crisis for two long years now, and it has cost nearly 100,00 lives, although that figure is likely to be much higher. 50% of the population, a staggering 10.5 million people are in urgent need of assistance according to UN figures released last week. So how is Obama solving this I hear you cry?
Well, and this might surprise you (ok, it might not) but he thinks he can solve this by getting more arms into Syria. Oh yes, because violence always yields results. Further to this, he has now effectively declared a proxy war with Russia due to their strategic position on the crisis.
Of course, I am not naive enough to believe a political solution will be reached anytime soon, if ever, and that chemical weapon use, although not yet proved to the public at large, cannot go unanswered, but arming potential Al Qeada operatives, who are salivating at the thought of controlling at least parts of Syria, is hardly conducive to peace now, is it?
I don’t know about you, but I am not looking forward to watching this crisis be exacerbated by intervention, nor am I looking forward to a potential striking of blows between Russia and the US. If I was you, I might hide behind the sofa in the coming days and weeks.
